Held during the winter solstice every June, Dark MOFO is a ten-day winter festival of art, music, food that has gained international attention. Launched in 2013 as a sister festival to the museum’s summer event MONA FOMA, Dark MOFO showcases a huge program of music, performances, installations, screenings and exhibitions. But unlike MONA FOMA it’s theme is very dark, not for the faint hearted with content and subjects that will push your boundaries in every way possible.
A centrepiece of the festival is the Dark MOFO Winter Feast – a rowdy modern update on traditional winter solstice celebrations that runs over the course of three nights. Thousands of visitors dine on meals prepared by visiting guest chefs, or snack on treats offered by local food and drink stallholders at the Hobart wharf, while watching performances by artists and DJs.
